    1.      There are many things that you may never know about a software company until you actually form a partnership.  To avoid “buyer’s remorse”, we strongly suggest that you find out as much as you can about the intangibles of a company before purchasing their software.  Say you have narrowed your decision down to a couple of different software packages.  It would be wise to contact someone who has used both systems in the past, so that they can provide a comparison.

    1. Ask their opinion on the following issues:

     i.     Is the software easy to use?

ii.     Does it work? (Can you produce an accurate Financial Statement, and how easily?)

iii.     Did the software have all of the features you were looking for? If not, what was it missing?

iv.     Tell me about their customer support and training?

     v.     Were there any unexpected costs that you weren’t told about?

While everyone has their own experiences and opinions, as you talk with people, you should begin to see some common themes in their feedback (i.e., “great customer service”, “they nickel & dime you to death”, “nobody can figure this thing out”, etc.).  You can then make an informed decision about which product to purchase.
